Mirage Festival: A sunset made of stacked horizontal colour bands that bend slightly like heat haze, with a bold directional arrow cutting across.

Brief

A festival on a working dock needs signs that read at two hundred metres, in the dark, to people who have been dancing.

Idea

Colour bands that are both the brand and the navigation. Follow the orange to the main stage.

Build

Sixteen weeks, ending with a week on site testing every sign at night.

Launch

Forty-eight thousand people used the system over three days.

After

Fewer people got lost, and the information tents finally had time for the interesting questions.

48,000 people found their way over three days, across three stages and one visual system. Lost-visitor questions at the information points fell by 60%.
